The Canterbury A&P Association’s Annual Show has delighted visitors; young and old, every year since it began in 1863. Lured by the tastes of gourmet food and wines, stomach-churning rides, feature entertainment, and the sights and sounds of the farmyard, The Show has become an annual ritual for Cantabrians. With around 100,000 people attending every year, The Show is the largest community event in the country!

The Farmyard
Children (and big kids at heart) will be able to get up close and personal with lambs, calves, puppies, ducklings, chickens and plenty of other young animals at the Mike Greer Homes City Farmyard. This petting area is a great way to introduce children to animals they may only have seen in story books.

Food and Wine
If food and wine is your thing, you’ll find plenty to tantalise your tastebuds in the Food and Wine Village. Sit in the wine courtyard and soak up the music from the Village Green or try some of the delicious treats on offer in the Food Pavilion. The Westinghouse Demonstration Kitchen will once again be hosting cooking demonstrations from some of New Zealand’s top chefs.

Entertainment
You can’t beat the excitement of the woodchopping arena or the fast-paced action in the shearing and wool handling competitions. These competitions attract the best competitors from across Australasia.

Live music is one of the cornerstones of the Canterbury A&P Show and there will be plenty to keep visitors of all ages entertained. Kiwi urban artist Ladi6 is set to headline the ASB Village Green on Show Day.

Other performers include the New Zealand Army Band, Kaylee Bell and Assembly Required who will play on the ASB Village Green on all three days of The Show. The Jordan Luck Band will be gracing the stage in the Town & Country Bar on Show Day.

Other entertainment includes the fast and furious Endurocross motorcycle competition, childrens’ entertainment on the Tip Top Family Lawn, the ever-popular Shetland Grand National steeplechase, the dog trials, carnival rides and a whole lot more.

Livestock and Equestrian Competitions
Over the three days of The Show around 3000 animals will compete in more than 1700 classes for Best in Show titles and over $100,000 in prize money. For the farming community it’s a chance to demonstrate the results of their hard labour; for city folk it’s a chance to see at close quarters some of the best cattle, sheep, alpaca, llama, poultry, pigs and goats that this proud farming region has to offer.

This year the Canterbury A&P Show is hosting a Royal A&P Dairy Cattle event, meaning the best of the best will be on show come 15 November.
