The partnership was announced by cricketer and Māia Ambassador Brendon McCullum and Councillor Raf Manji on Thursday 1 September. The announcement marked not only the first day of spring, but the beginning of ticket sales for the events.
“Māia is on a mission to enhance the health experience in Canterbury, and all eyes are on Canterbury during NZ Cup and Show Week, so there’s no better time to get Māia and its mission on everyone’s radar,” Mr McCullum says.
“Māia is currently raising money for the redevelopment of Christchurch Hospital for enhancements to a larger rooftop helipad and children’s facilities,” Mr McCullum says. “Cantabrians and South Islanders turn out for NZ Cup and Show Week in droves, so it’s great that it’s them and their families that will be the direct recipients of the good that comes out of this partnership.”
NZ Cup and Show Week guests can give to Māia when purchasing their tickets or a Māia #goodtogreat wristband at one of the week’s ever-popular events, including the Canterbury A&P Show and the races at Addington Raceway and Riccarton Park Racecourse.
